Massage therapists provide massage treatments as a source of relaxation.
Sports massage therapists provide deep tissue massage to aid sports people in their preparation for and recovery from training and competition. This deep massage helps to relieve minor aches and pains so can also be beneficial to non-sports people.
Soft tissue therapists are able to assess, treat and offer rehabilitation advice for a wide range of minor and chronic injuries. Their treatments build on sports massage and may include many other techniques such as myofascial release, soft tissue release, positional release, muscle energy techniques and trigger point therapy, to name a few. As well as treating the specific injury, soft tissue therapists aim to identify the underlying causes and work with the client to achieve longer-term improvements in mobility and well-being.
